Transport (VMDB) error -45: Failed to connect to peer process

Hi,

 

I am using ESXi 5.5, build 1281650.

 

I am having the problem of not being able to start any VM's without getting the following message

 

Transport (VMDB) error -45: Failed to connect to peer process.

Failed to power on '/vmfs/volumes/51a6288d-06384dd1-6fd5-089e01a03cd5/test/test.vmx'.

 

There are currently 5 VM's. 1 of them is running and it is fine, but I am afraid to turn it off worrying it may not come back up again.

The above error happens even when i create new machines.

 

I have in total 3 of these ESXi installation, all running on the same build and same hardware.

 

Only difference that I can see right now is that int he server summary under Genreal there is no Image Profile, it is blank. My w other working servers show ESXI-T.T.0-1331820-standard. I do not know if this means anything

 

Any assistance will be appreciated.

VDGA not working in multi monitor mode on certain VM's

Hi, we have an environment with the following setup.

 

ESXi 5.1 running on Dell Poweredge R720's. Each host with 2 x NVidia GRID K1's and 1x Teradici Apex 2800 offload card.

Horizon View 5.3

VM's are Win 7 Enterprise x64 with View Agent 5.3

 

NVidia driver on ESXi is: 319.65-1OEM.510.0.0.802205

 

So, when we updated to View 5.3 and updated the Nvidia drivers along with the View agents on the VMs, I understood VDGA was supposed to start working in dual monitor mode. However, when I launch a session from View software client in multi monitor mode or Zero client connected to two monitors, what happens is that the VM loads and uses the GRID driver, but the Windows desktop gets put right in the centre of the two screens. The mouse can be moved all the way to the edge of either screen, but the windows desktop only takes up the centre square (the size of one monitor). Checking display properties inside Windows indicates only one monitor. Attempting to detect additional monitors does not work.

 

Any ideas? If you need more info, please advise as I am happy to provide.

Существуют ли требования к емкости и задержкам канала между сервером vcenter и esx хостами?

Сервер vCenter находится в неком городе N и есть необходимость разместить сервер ESXi Host в другом городе X, допустим Питер-Москва.

Не хотелось бы постоянно терять управление.

VixDiskLib_Open call crashes with library conflict

Hi All,

 

 

     I'm trying to Open the VMDK file Through my application Using VDDK in linux environment(Centos-6.4 x86_64) . it get's crashed in VixDiskLib_Open call with Back Trace as below .I'm using VDDK version 5.1.1 (the same issue ocurrs with VDDK v5.5.0). It seems that the curl library(curl v7.24, ssl 1.0.0e, crypto 1.0.0.e) and its dependencies used in my application are conflicting with vddk's libcurl and it's dependencies . I cannot afford to remove the libcurl used in my application as it is being needed for existing feature . Is there any solution that I can use both the libraries without conflicting.

Error add datastore

I have installed in a system ESXi 5.5 and has 2x2T HDD. In storage i can see only one daatstore1 (1 HDD). On devices i can see both disks fine. When i am trying to install the second drive i am getting the following error.

 

A specified parameter was not correct.

Vim.Host.DiskPartitionInfo.Spec.

Error stack:

Call "HostStorageSystem.ComputeDiskPartitionInfo" for object "storageSystem" on ESXi "144..54.123.223" failed.

How to find IP address of VMs from Linux host

Hi,

 

Is there any tool that can resolve the IP address of the running VMs from the linux host, when using NAT networking and DHCP ?

 

I can find them by logging in the VMs, but I need to automatically retrieve these addresses so the scripts in the host won't have to be manually changed when the IPs change.

vSphere Neworking within a Openstack Environment

I have an Openstack environment running Havana with a Controller node (keystone, glance, cinder, mysql and rabbit) and a Network Controller (neutron server, dhcp, l3 and ovs plugin) and 3 compute nodes (nova-compute and ovs plug-in). 2 of the compute host run KVM and the other is my compute-node for vsphere (nova-compute and neutron ovs plugin). My neutron environment is OVS with GRE and if I launch an instance that resides on any of the nova compute nodes running KVM the instance successfully receives an IP address and I am able to associate a Floating IP to get to the instance from "outside the network".

 

I am able to successfully launch an instance on my vCenter (v5.5) but I am not able to get an IP address. The "br-int" port group does get assigned to the single NIC of the instance but I am not sure what VLAN this port group should be assigned. I do not have any errors in my nova-compute logs.

 

My GRE tunnels are successfully built to my network controller along with the other 2 compute nodes. I do not see a port created in the openvswitch for the instance running on vCenter which I thought I should, maybe? Maybe this is a support architecture (GRE tunnels to a network controller) for vSphere integration with Openstack? I don't believe this will be my final configuration as I would like to use the Nicira plugin with Openstack but I can't find any documentation on how to create the Nicira controllers/ architecture. I have found how to configure the plugin within Openstack.

Need to disable actions for Virtual Machines in template state.

Hi,

 

I need to disable actions on vms in template state.

Is there any conditional property which will be "true" for a VM which is not in template state?

So that action will be available only on VMs and not on VM templates.

vSphere web client allows guest customization where windows client does not

I am running vCenter 5.5.

 

I have had issues with deploying custom appliances through the web client because it does not seem to enforce the same rules as the windows client does. When deployed through the windows client guest customization is disabled, when deployed through the web client, guest customization is allowed, but end up wiping any vApp options that are included. These are the steps I've followed to reproduce this issue.

 

1) Deploy OVA

2) Convert vm to template

3) Deploy VM from template using web client

4) select clone options: "customize VM" and"power on"

5) do not change any of the hardware (just click next)

6) Input vApp options

7) Click finish

8) The VM gets created but not launched because required vApp options are missing (even though they had been filled in)


It is possible to then edit the vApp options again and fill in all the fields again and launch the server. Using the Windows client, this is not an issue because guest customization is disabled with the message, "Customization of the guest operating system 'otherLinux64Guest' is not supported in this configuration. Microsoft Vista (TM) and Linux guest with Logical Volume Manager are supported only for recent ESX host and VMware Tools versions. Refer to vCenter documentation for supported configurations."


Is this a known bug, or is there a way to prevent this from happening other than just knowing that guest customization shouldn't be used even if the client allows it?

Windows 8.1 shutdown hangs VMWare Fusion 6.0.2 when closing application

- MacBook Pro Non-Retina mid 2012 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD running Mavericks

- Just updated to VMWare Fusion 6.0.2 and the issue persists

- After running and shutting down Windows 8.1 as a guest operating system, I'm unable to quit VMWare Fusion by going to VMWare Fusion -> Quit VMWare Fusion menu: VMWare Fusion hangs after clicking it

- This doesn`t seem to happen after I use Mavericks as guest operating system

- I've tried to disable AppNap with no avail

- Any clues?

ESXi 5.5 snapshot problem

Hi Guys,

 

This week we updated a customer from ESXi 4.0 to 5.5 + we added a new datastore (they needed extra space). I ofcourse began with taking a livebackup of the servers. At tuesday night, the following morning i then went onsite but could not perform the update because of problems with the host (purple screen after ESXi 5.5 load). To minimize downtime i scheduled a new apointment with the customer at night, not knowing that the DC server was then running on a snapshot due to the live backup and did so for the rest of the day. That night the update was successfull. And i started to copy the DC from old datastore to the new one. After which i removed the old DC server from the inventory and added a new one with the original .vmdk file instead of the snapshot vmdk.My problem is now that they contacted me the follow day at the end. That hey were missing their data from the date on which te server was running on the snapshot. My question is the following: if i commit the snapshot from that day, will they lose their data that has been added afterwards?

ESXi 5.5 Free Hypervisor Web Console

I just downloaded the free version of ESXi 5.5 to start evaluating it relative to 5.1. From reading, VMware is moving to a web console only, with the native client only for 'emergency access' to the host (Why is everyone going to web consoles? they tend to be more problematic than native consoles...).

 

With the free version, how are you supposed to get the Web Console? There's a reference under the vSphere client download saying: 'Note: vSphere Web Client can be installed using the vCenter Server installer', but that's not available to download when you register for the free version. So if you have the free version, what's the right way to get the web client and what are you supposed to install it on? If the web console is now going to be required to access newer features of the Hypervisor, maybe VMware should consider providing the vCenter appliance with the free version, with the paid features disabled, of course.

vCenter WebClient にてコンソール起動接続ができない(vCenter5.5)

vCenter WebClient にてコンソール起動接続ができません。

以下のようなメッセージが表示されます。

Unable to connect to the MKS: Failed to connect to server （vCenterサーバのIPアドレス:902）

 

ｖCenterサーバのWindowsファイアウォールは全て止めてみましたが同じです。

上記リンクによると、virtual machine console は902/tcp となっています。

しかしながら、vCenter Server でnetstat を確認すると、以下のように、902/tcp でのリスニングはありませんでした。

 

ただ、不思議な事に、vCenter Server 自体でWebClientに接続すると正しく起動できてしまいます。

esx4 to esxi5.5 migration using shared storage

Hi,

 

I want to migrate my ESX4 infrastructure to a new ESXi5.5 infrastructure (migrate, not upgrade). Afterthe migration the old infrastructure will be decommisioned.

My strategy is to connect the new ESXi5.5 hosts to the SAN and share the datastores between both infrastructures, after that I will deregister vm's from the old host and register to the new hosts.

This plan is possible? I dont' know if I can connect a shared VMFS (FC SAN) from esxi4 and esxi5.5 hosts at the same time. The filesystem version of these datastores is VMFS 3.3.

"vmware workstation failed to connect to the workstation server"

Fresh install of 10.0.1 build-1379776 on Windows 8 x64.  The installer said that port 443 was in use, so I switched to a random unused port.  Settings->Shared VMs said that Sharing was disabled, and when I try to enable it, it processes for a while before saying "vmware workstation failed to connect to the workstation server".  I've attached the latest hostd log.

Recovery of a Virtual machine Fails when in SAN Mode.

Hi,

 

I am performing a Recovery of the Virtual machine using SAN Mode and it fails.. I can see the below errors in  the log

 

VMDKWrite() :

Failed to write to Disk One of the parameters supplied is invalid

No Compute Resource Found On Specified Host.

GetDatastoreBlocksizeMB: returns blockSizeMB= 1


The same recovery works fine if I use NBD Mode..


Any Ideas why its not working in SAN Mode..?


I am using ESX 5.1, VDDK 5.1 and Recovering a machine using our backup Application.

"502 Bad Gateway" error message

After upgrading from Horizon Workspace 1.0 to 1.5, get the following error message when trying to log in to https://gateway-va :

 

     "A communication problem occurred. The page you want to view cannot be loaded. Contact your administrator with this error: 502 Bad Gateway. "

 

This happens without even going to a login screen.

 

I've seen this before in the past before the upgrade, but a restart of the vApp has in the past resolved the issue.  This time, restarts do not seem to help.  Could anyone help me with where to look to troubleshoot this "Bad Gateway" error? I've checked the /opt/vmware/var/log/vami/updatecli.log but was not able to find anything helpful.

Management Network on different VLANs

I am looking for some good reading on if there is any gotchas for setting up your management network on two different VLANs.

 

This is only for managemnet traffic, and not for vMotion traffic, or FT traffic

 

This is for a larger environment.  Multiple hosts, multiple clusters, multiple virtual datacenters.
