video resolution for ubuntu client

Hi,

I have successfully installed an Ubuntu Desktop system on ESXi 5.

When connecting via vnc, I get a video resolution of 1024x768 and cannot change it to a higher solution.

Same is the case when I connect via console (on VMWare vSphere Client).

Any hint how to get a higher resolution?
