Why limiting vRAM on virtual machine?

It seems that vSphere5.0 supports the maximum vRAM of 1TB on virtual machine by referring the following site.

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r50/vsphere-50-configuration-maximums.pdf

But from the following site(Sorry, I just found Japanese site), it seems that a powered on virtual machine just

and only can use the maximum memory of 96GB from licensed vRAM pool.

http://www.vmware.com/files/jp/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf

I wonder why VMware have the big memory limit which reaches to 1TB even though a poweron virtual machine just can

use 96GB from vRAM pool? If I configured virtual machine with 1TB vRAM and power on it, I wonder whether the virtual

machine only can recongnize 96GB due to vRAM pool limit?
